Hollow Crystals

41 photos

This was probably one of my favorite projects I did at Reynolds. Mostly because I had used a process in a way that I hadn’t seen done before. I ended up using solvent to shrink silicone to create a core for my mold, to make cool uniform hollow castings.

The main part of the mold was made from an existing crystal, but the interesting part is the core to make it hollow was made by shrinking the silicone by adding solvent. I have seen this method used a lot of times for making a smaller version of a mold but never for a core. It works really well and I’m very happy with the results.
